Originally released as a live looping song in 2018, on my Hook & Loop EP.
When living in Preston, I felt the urge to take advantage of the tight rhythm section of Jackie & Jamie from the bands Ogopogo and Firetail, that rehearsed in our garage.
We rehearsed the tune once, and reconvened a week later, to track the drums, bass, and guitar and vocal guide tracks. I started a bunch of projects at this time, and had much work to do on Firetail's debut EP, which I co-produced with the band.
Moving studios took some time. I left this track on the shelf in the mean time.
The addition of keys, from the good doctor Hong, gave me the opportunity to record a 1970s Hohner Clavinet I had recently had repaired.
I also dusted off a 1981 Korg Monopoly Synthesizer, and noodled around till I figured out parts for this track. It got out of control and busy, so I ended up pulling most of the synth out, as well as some lead guitar.
I've altered a few of the words since the looping version was released, to make it flow a bit better, and tracked some harmonies.
With all the extra time due to the lockdown, I have been dragging a bunch of tracks closer to the finish line.
There will be more soon. Please consider donating. This is being released during the Covid-19 Lockdown, so all of my work is cancelled!
lyrics
Grounded and deep rooted
Forgetting youth
Still resistant, the wind persistent
Writhing around, tearing the roots
Stand against the wind with everything to lose
The ground below, a stable home
The open air alluring
Stand against the wind or move with it
Do I Stand against the wind or move with it?
The gentle breeze
Builds at my heels
Bearing shackles to bind the tendrils
Writhing around, tearing the roots
Stand against the wind with everything to lose
The ground below a stable home
The passing breeze seduces
Do I Stand against the wind or move with it?
Do I Stand against the wind or move with it?
Waving freely, reaching
Tasting foreign air
Persistent limbs seek risk and whim
Writhing around, tearing the roots
Stand against the wind, or ramble steadily
The ground below, a limit known
The fleeting fury charms me
Do I Stand against the wind or move with it?
Do I Stand against the wind or move with it?
Tearing the roots
